Louis Armstrong Nat King Cole Les Paul Dean Martin Johnny Hodges Rosemary Clooney George Barnes Ray Perkins Ed McKenzie Autograph Signed 1952 Metronome Magazine ITEM SOLD
April 1952 issue of the music magazine "Metronome". Signed on the front cover by Les Paul, Nat King Cole and Johnny Hodges. Signed on inside pages a second time by both Les Paul and Nat King Cole, as well as Louis Armstrong, Rosemary Clooney, Dean Martin, Cozy Cole, George Barnes, and DJs Ray Perkins and Ed McKenzie. Ray Perkins was also a pianist and composer, who cut many ragtime piano rolls for The Edison Company. Ed McKenzie was known as Jack the Bellboy, and was one of Detroit's, and the country's, first well-known radio personalities. Though his popular radio show, and later his own TV show, he was instrumental in bringing what was then known as "race music" to Detroit's teenagers. George Barnes is arguably the first electric guitar player, having started using it in 1931. He also recorded one of the earliest sessions with the instrument in 1938, on some sessions with Big Bill Broonzy. The magazine is complete, showing some signs of wear and age. The back cover is stamped with the address of the news shop (and dated March 25 1952) in San Antonio, Texas where the magazine was originally sold. As I can only show two photos here, I will gladly send photos of other signed pages on request. This is from the estate of Dan (Oberholtz) Diamond, a prominent Kansas City area DJ for decades. Besides his many years as a DJ and interviewing most of the top musical acts of his time, Dan was also known for his vast personal record collection.
