Django Reinhardt Autograph Signed Paper Strip On LP Record Album Cover
A Django Reinhardt signature in pencil on a piece of paper cut to about 1" x 5". It has been fastened with clear plastic tape to the front cover of the album "The Best Of Django Reinhardt Vol. 1". This signed paper had been inside the paper sleeve of a 78 rpm record which had also been signed by Django Reinhardt on the sleeve. The record sleeve had also been signed by Gene Krupa, Harry James, Buddy Rich, Les Brown, Les Paul and Mary Ford. The record came from the estate of guitarist Harry Volpe. Harry befriended Django on Django's short USA tour in 1946, and Django visited Harry's home and recording studio while in New York. Harry's guitar center was on West 48th Street in New York, his recording studio in Jackson Heights, Queens. I have obtained many vintage 78s from Harry's collection, signed by the likes of Leadbelly, Glenn Miller, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and many other stars of the era. The clear plastic tape covers very little of the signature. Django is of course very rare in any form, more so with his full name rather than just first initial.
